    Comment Historian of the diocese of Hamburg-Bremen and its mission to Scandinavia, the north Atlantic and the Slavs of Holstein. Possibly of southern German origin. He composed his history at Bremen between 1072 and 1076 on the basis of local sources, including the Lives of Ansgar and Rimbert and charters (some of them forged). He also records oral accounts given to him by the Danish King Svend Estridsen (1047-1076) as well as missionaries who had been active in Scandinavia.
