Title 269 Barbarians raid the Balkans until their defeat at Naissus (Summer 269)
Description A confederation of barbarians coming from the mouth of the Tyras River (modern Dniester), attacked the Roman city of Tomis (modern Constanța), which however resisted to their assault. The invaders, who during the expedition split into two different groups, did not achieve any real success. After an abortive siege of Thessaloniki, the emperor Claudius, who meanwhile had replaced Gallienus, crushed them in the battle of Naissus (Summer 269).
