Then, after a few more years, and as they deserved, the Jews received a foreigner, Herod, as their king; and it was in his reign that Christ was born. For now had come the fullness of time signified by the prophetic spirit through the mouth of the patriarch Jacob, when he said, ‘The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until He shall come for Whom it is reserved; and He shall be the expectation of the Gentiles.’ (Trans.
