Κατὰ δὲ τὸν καιρὸν ἐκεῖνον Μαρία ἡ ἀδελφὴ Ἡρακλείου χρήματα πρὸς τὸν χαγάνον Ἀβάρων ἔπεμψε καὶ τὸν υἱὸν Στέφανον ἀπέλαβε. τοῖς δὲ τοιούτοις δώροις ἡσθεὶς ὁ Ἄβαρος ἠρέθισεν Ἀνιανὸν τὸν μάγιστρον, ὡς καὶ αὐτὸς πέμψας δῶρα ἀπολήψεται καὶ τοὺς ἄλλους | οὕσπερ κατεῖχεν ὁμήρους. καὶ δὴ καὶ ἐγένετο οὕτως. |
Translation |
At the same time Maria, the sister of Herakleios, sent money to the Chagan of the Avars (Abárōn khagán) and ransomed her son Stephen. Pleased with such gifts, the Avar <chief> urged Anianos the magister that he, too, should send gifts and ransom the other hostages he was holding; which indeed, was done. |
