If anyone kills a schultheis or other official of the king while in the king's service, he shall be valued at the price of a freeman as noted in this edict, and composition shall be made to his legitimate relatives. In addition, the man who killed him shall pay eighty solidi as composition to the king's fisc…

| Summary |
Rothari, No. 374 establishes that if a sculdahais (local legal official) or other royal agent is killled then their family are to be compensated as if he were a freeman and a further composition of eighty solidi is to be made to the royal court [curtem regis]. The law then goes on to confirm that any injuries are to be compensated for as if he were any other freeman, or according to his social status as detailed in the edict. An additional composition of eighty solidi to be made to the royal fisc is again required. |
