ταῦτα μαϑόντες οἱ τὰ ἑσπέϱια οἰϰοῦτες μέϱη, ὅ τε Χαγάνος τῶν Ἀβάϱων ϰαὶ οἱ ἐπέϰεινα ῥῆγες ἔξαϱχοί τε ϰαὶ ϰάσταλδοι ϰαὶ οἱ ἐξοχώτατοι τῶν πϱὸς τὴν δύσιν ἐϑνῶν, διὰ πϱεσβευτῶν δῶϱα τῷ βασιλεῖ στείλαντες εἰϱηνιϰὴν πϱὸς αὐτοὺς ἀγάπην ϰυϱωϑῆναι ᾐτήσαντο. εἴξας οὖν ὁ βασιλεὺς ταῖς αύτῶν αἰτησςσιν ἐϰύσωσε ϰαὶ πϱὸς αὐτοὺς δεσποτιϰὴν εἰϱήνην. |

When the inhabitants of the West had learnt of this, namely the Chagan of the Avars as well as the kings, chieftains, and castaldi who lived beyond them, and the princes of the western nations, they sent ambassadors and gifts to the emperor, requesting that peace and friendship should be confirmed with them. The emperor acceded to their demands and ratified an imperial peace with them also. |
