ϰαὶ ἀϰινδλυνως ἐϰ τοῦ ϰλύδωνος ἐϰείνου ἐξῆλϑε ϰαὶ εἰσῆλϑεν εἰς τὸν Δανοῦβιν ποταμόν. ἀποστείλαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ Στέφνον πϱὸς Τέϱνελιν, τὸν λῦϱιν Βουλγαϱίας, ἐπὶ τῷ δοὺναι αὐτῷ σύναϱσιν, ὅπως ϰϱατήςῃ τὴν πϱογονιϰὴν αὐτοῦ βασιλείαν, ὑτέσχετο αὐτοῦ δὲ πάντα ὑπαϰούειν ϰαὶ συντϱέχειν ἐνομότως ὑποσχομένου ϰαὶ τοῦτον μετὰ τιμῆς δεξαμένου, συγϰινεῖ πάντα τὸν ὑποϰείμενον αὐτῷ λαὸν τῶν Βουλγάϱων ϰαὶ Σϰλάβων· ϰαὶ τῷ ἐϱχιμλενῳ χϱόνῳ ὁπλισϑέντες ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλεύουσαν πόλιν παϱεγένοντο. |

He came out of that storm unharmed and entered the river Danube. He then dispatched Stephen to Terbelis, the lord of Bulgaria, so as to obtain help to regain his ancestral empire, and promised to give him many gifts and his own daughter as wife. The latter promised under oath to obey and co-operate in all respects and, after receiving him with honour, roused up the entire host of Bulgars and Slavs that were subject to him. The following year they armed themselves and came to the Imperial City. |
| Summary |
Justinian II enlists the help of Tervel (Terbelis), khan of Bulgaria, in order to reclaim the throne, promising him the hand of his daughter from his first marriage and giving him gifts. Tervel raises his Bulgar and Slav forces and they go to Constantinople. |
