Translation Thus the emperor dealing with Landulf to no avail at that time, went to the besieged Capua and utterly destroyed it from this side and that for three months; and when he was unwilling to be reconciled whatsoever with the citizens of that city, they handed themselves over to Lambert, the emperor’s count; thinking that they were acting more correctly, they fell all the more ruinously. When later they had achieved nothing, all in scarcely a month were given to various judges as property taken in war. This when this had been accomplished, first Salerno was captured since Guaiferius was without any security, and in like manner Benevento was taken at last from Adelchis.
Summary Emperor Louis II and his troops lay siege to Capua and destroy the city after the alleged deception of Bishop Landulf of Capua . The length of the siege, given as 3 months here, must have been much shorter. The citizens of Capua surrender to Lambert of Spoleto, which the author says did not serve them well. Later Salerno and Benevento are also taken.
