Translation The circle of lands below heaven is inhabited in four regions. The first part of it is the one in which we live; there is another opposite this one, which is inhabited by people called the Antichthones; while the two lower ones are opposite these ones, and the people who inhabit those are called the Antipodes. The circle of lands which we inhabit is divided into three parts, and has these names: Asia, which is between the Don and the Nile; Libya, which is between the Nile and the Gulf of Cadíz; Europe, which is between the sea and the Don. The most famous peoples in Asia are: the Indians, Seres, Persians, Medes, Parthians, Arabs, Bithynians, Phrygians, Cappadocians, Cilicians, Syrians, Lydians. The most famous peoples in Europe are: the Scythians, Sarmatians, Germans, Dacians, Moesians, Thracians, Macedonians, Dalmatians, Pannonians, Illyrians, Greeks, Italians, Gauls, Spaniards.
