Title 285 Maximian defeats two barbarian armies – one of Burgundians and Alamanni, the other of Chaibones and Heruli
Description Burgundians, Alamanni, Chaibones, and Herules cross the Rhine. This group of four peoples is divided into two different pairs. On the one hand, there are the Burgundians and the Alamanni, who were defeated by the Romans only after being weakened by famine and pestilence. On the other hand, one finds the Chaibones and the Herules, who were crushed by the emperor ‘by open warfare’ (aperto Marte) and whose destruction is defined as complete.
