Description The first Roman emperor to profess Christianity. Once defeated Maxentius (Battle of the Milvian Bridge, 28 October 312), he issued an edict that granted religious tolerance and ordered the restitution of property previously confiscated from the Christians (Milan 313). With the defeat of Licinius (324), he put an end to the Tetrarchy.
