dicere, dicam populo gentium diutius sine fide algenti, da de tuis filiis qui ad meae fidem confessionis et amoris conueniant dicam et plebi israheliticae quae iam meae lumine cognitionis fruebatur, noli prohibere gentes in sortem electionis recipi, dicam cornelio ac domui eius, fidem et baptisma christi suscipite, dicam iudaeis, nolite cogere credentes ex gentibus circumcidi quibus fonte baptismi consecratis fides et confessio ueritatis ad salutem sufficit. caelestis uocatur de utroque generale praeceptum saluatoris accipiunt, euntes in mundum uniuersum praedicate euangelium omni creaturae, id est et circumcisioni et praeputio, ubi et absque ulla differentia subinfertur, qui crediderit et baptizatus fuerit saluus erit. |

And on the second side of the tabernacle, which faces north- ward, there shall be twenty boards with forty bases of silver; two bases shall be set under each board. The south side of the tabernacle, which faces southward, designates that ancient people of God who, having received the light of knowledge of the law a long time ago, were accustomed to burn with the love of their Creator, but the second side, which faces northward, depicts that multitude of the Gentiles which did not cease to languish in the darkness and cold of unbelief right up to the time of the Lord’s incarnation. Concerning their noble calling the Lord says through the prophet: ‘I will say to the north, “Give [them] up, ’* and to the South, “Do not hinder [them], ”” which is to say openly, ‘I will say to the people of the Gentiles who have been freezing for a long time without faith, “Give up your children that they may come together in faith to the confession and love of me,” and I will say to the people of the Israelites who have already enjoyed the light that comes from knowing me, “Do not hinder the Gentiles from being admitted into a share of election.” I will say to Cornelius and his house, “Receive the faith and the baptism of Christ.” I will say to the Jews, “Do not compel the believers from among the Gentiles to be circumcised, for to those who are consecrated in the font of baptism, faith and a true confession are sufficient for salvation.”’ (Trans.
