At this time a dispute broke out between the peoples of the Huns and the Bavarians, so that the cities around the Enns - that served as the frontier - were devastated; they seemed deserted as a forest that is subdued by wild animals, because human frailty did not dare to cross back and forth. [...] Therefore, the duke of the people of Bavaria, Theodo, declared that he had a dispute with the Avars and did not allow him (i.e. the Saint Emmeram, translator's note) to go to them, he rather should stay with him and his people. |
| Summary |
In the time, when the Saint Emmeram came to Bavaria, a dispute had broken out between the Huns and the Bavarians under duke Theodo. The area around the river Enns, that served as a border between the realms, was deserted because of the fightings. The duke therefore forbade Emmeram to travel further to the Avars. |
