Quotation Et nunc blanda suasione, nunc bellorum inpetu ad id cogebat, tandemque tricesimo imperii sui anno obtinuit – imperator quippe ex rege creatus est –, quod multis temporibus elaborando non defecit: ob id qui olim socii et amici erant Francorum, iam fratres et quasi una gens ex Christiana fide, veluti modo videmus, facta est.
Translation He forced them to this, sometimes with seductive enticements, and sometimes with war. Finally, in the thirtieth year of his imperial rule— for he had been transformed from a king into an emperor— he finally obtained the end for which he had not ceased to struggle over these many years.
