Translation In era 756, Anastasius was crowned the sixty-fifth emperor of the Romans, ruling amid civil war for a year and a half, with 5918 years having passed from the beginning of the world. In the time of this man Zuleiman, still holding the rule of the Arabs, made as successors of the kingdom to himself the son of his uncle called Humar and his brother Izit. In the Spanish lands indeed the aforementioned Alaor, taking up patrician Cordoba as a seat, retained the rule of the Saracens by disposition and imposed on the Christians small fees in peace time for the sake of bringing in taxes to the public treasuries. (Al-Tamimi, trans., “The Mozarabic Chronicle”, 2019)
Summary Here the chronicle recounts Anastasius being made emperor, and Caliph Suleiman bin Abd al-Malik naming his nephew, Omar, and his brother (actually his cousin), Yazid II, as successors, and how Al-Hurr bin Abd al-Rahman al-Thaqafi become patrician of Cordoba and established taxation on Christians to increase the treasury.
