Quotation 61. Chuni in Galliis venere conantur, adversus quos Sigybertus cum magnum adgreditur exercito. Chuni magecis artibus instructi, multis fantasiis ostensis, exercitum Sigyberti metum concutunt, terga vertunt. Sigybertus a Chunis circumdatur, sed suae prudenciae donis offerens liberatur, nec ei quicquam haec condicio / fecit opprobrium. Pacem sempiternam cum Chunis firmavit et a rege Chunorum condignis muneribus honoratur.
Translation 61. The Huns tried to invade Gaul; Sigibert went against them with a large army. The Huns who are well versed in magic scared the army of Sigibert through all sorts of spooks; so, they turned to escape. Sigibert was surrounded by the Huns, but gained freedom by promising them gifts, as clever as he was; but this concession did not harm his reputation. He made eternal peace with the Huns and became honoured by the King of the Huns with worthy gifts.
Summary The Avars invaded Gaul using magic tricks. But Sigibert was able to fend them of by promising them rich gifts. Afterwards, he made eternal peace with the Avars and got many gifts from their king.
