Sed priusquam ipsius gentis acta crudelia stilo persequamur, non superfluum videatur, si de Scythiae situ Scytharumque moribus historiographorum dicta sequentes aliquid commemoremus. |
| Translation |
(a. 889) In the year of the Lord's incarnation 889, the Hungarian people, who were extremely warlike and more savage than any beast, and who were unheard of in previous centuries because they were not named [in the sources], emerged from the Scythian kingdoms and the immense marshes created by the floods of the River Don. But before we follow the cruel deeds of this people with our pen, it does not seem superfluous for us to record something about the location of Scythia and the customs of the Scythians according to the words of the historiographers. |
