Translation At this time a dispute broke out between the peoples of the Huns and the Bavarians, so that the cities around the Enns - that served as the frontier - were devastated; they seemed deserted as a forest that is subdued by wild animals, because human frailty did not dare to cross back and forth. [...] Therefore, the duke of the people of Bavaria, Theodo, declared that he had a dispute with the Avars and did not allow him (i.e. the Saint Emmeram, translator's note) to go to them, he rather should stay with him and his people.
Summary In the time, when the Saint Emmeram came to Bavaria, a dispute had broken out between the Huns and the Bavarians under duke Theodo. The area around the river Enns, that served as a border between the realms, was deserted because of the fightings. The duke therefore forbade Emmeram to travel further to the Avars.
