Kommentar Ratchis' date of birth is unknown. Ratchis was made king of the Lombards in 744 [Event, ID:91] until he was replaced by his brother, Aistulf [Author, ID:$$, Event, ID:95]. Ratchis issued additions to the Edictus Langobardorum [Text, ID:984] edited as Ratchis Leges [Text, ID:$]. These laws were issued in two or three main legislative phases: The first in 745 or 746 [Event, ID:92, Text, ID:$$], the second in 746 [Event, ID:93, Text, ID:$$], and an undated set between 746 and 749 746 [Event, ID:94, Text, ID:$$]. Ratchis sought to become king again after death of Aistulf in 756, but retired to a monastery (Monte Cassino or Cervaro) in 757 where he lived for the remainder of his life.
