Translation But he [Pope Innocent II], as a constant and rigid man, at first did not want to receive him. After messengers had been running between them for some time treating on how to make a peace, the Lord Pope, when a council of the cardinals had been held on account of the many Roman citizens who had been captured with him, received the king [Roger II of Sicily], and when he had received the sacrament and homage from him, invested him with the banner of the Kingdom of Sicily and the Duchy of Apulia. In those days, Count Rodulf, who was called a duke, died at Troy on the occasion of a phlebotomy. (Trans. Laura Gazzoli)
