Text Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum (1075 - 1076) Adam of Bremen
Translation There are many peoples of the Slavs, of whom the first across the border are the Transalbingian Wagrians; their bishopric is at Oldenburg on the sea. After them come the Abodrites, who are now called Reregi, and their bishopric is Mecklenburg. Then again in our direction are the Polabingi, whose bishorpric is Ratzeburg. Beyond them are the Lingones and Warnabi. Nearby live the Chizzini and the Circipani, who are separated from the Tholosantes and the Rehtri by the river Peene, and the bishopric of Demmin. There the archdiocese of Hamburg ends. There are also other peoples of the Slavs, who live between the Elbe and the Oder, such as the Heveldi, who live along the river Havel, and the Doxani, Leubuzzi, Wilini and Stoderani with many others. Among these the most central and powerful of all are the Retharii, whose chief city is the notorious Rethra, a seat of idolatry. (Trans. Laura Gazzoli)
