| Translation |
If anyone has a case in another civitatem (judicial district), he shall go with a letter from his own iudice (judge) to that judge who presides in the other place. If that judge delays to do justice for him and has not settled the suit within eight days, he shall pay twenty solidi as composition to him who brought he suit and another twenty solidi to the king…

| Summary |
Liutprand, No. 27 establishes that if a person has a legal cause against another person in the district [civitatem) of another judge (iudex), then he should take a letter from his own judge to him. The judge of the other district then has 8 days to address the situation, else must pay 20 solidi composition to the claimant and a further 20 solidi to the king. The law then goes on to state that if the judge cannot resolve the situation, then he must make this known and has twelve days to bring the accused person before the king. |
