Si quis liberum hominem foris provincia vinderit conponat wirigild eius tamquam si eum occidisset. |
Translation |
If anyone sells a freeman outside the country he shall pay as composition the same wergeld'as if he had killed him.

Summary |
Liutprand, No. 48 establishes that if a freeman is sold outside of the country, that is he is enslaved by being sold abroad, then composition should be paid equal to his widrigild (wergild) (presumably to his heirs or him if he somehow returns) as if he had been killed. |
