Translation … Therefore in the name of God, I, Liutprand, the most excellent king of the Catholic Christian Lombard nation, in the twelfth year of my reign, with Christ protecting, on the first day of March in the seventh indiction, take care, with our judges and with the rest of our Lombard fideles, to add to our code in a sixth issue laws covering those matters which have been overlooked heretofore and concerning which many cases have already arisen. Summary The prologue to Liutprand’s laws from the twelfth year of his reign (724 CE) begin with an outline of religious intentions for the issuing of the new law, then continues on to name Liuptrand as the law-giver, and give the date, and iterate the involvement of the judges and other faithful Lombards in preparing the further legislation to be added to the law-book.
