AM 6048 (562/63) (p. 351) In the same month envoys arrived (in Constantinople) from Askel, king of the Hermichiones, who dwell inland of the barbarian nation near the Ocean. |
Summary |
Envoys from a people called Hermichiones, most likely the Turks, arrive in Constantinople, sent by the king/khagan Askel. There have been attempts to identify Askel with notable rulers such as Istemi or lesser Turkish rulers, but so far, none have been convincing. |
