Translation In that same time Taxis, king of the Hungarians, came to Italy with a large army. Berengar gave him ten measures of coins not from his own money, but from an exaction on the churches and paupers. Yet he did this not so that he might take care of the people, but so that, with this excuse, he might assemble a large sum, as indeed he did. Every person, of either sex, whether already weaned or still suckling, gave a coin for himself, and, mixing bronze with these coins, Berengar obtained ten measures from just a few coins; he kept for himself the other part and what he extracted from the churches.
Summary Per id tempus Taxis, Hungariorum rex, magno cum exercitu in Italiam venit.
