Mysticorum expositiones sacramentorum seu Quaestiones in Vetus Testamentum (624 - 636) Isidore of Seville |
Quotation |
Ejiciens ergo Abraham Deus foras, ostendit illi stellas caeli, dicens: Sic faciam semen tuum, id est,
christianam gentem, cujus tu pater in fide subsistis, sic faciam lumine resurrectionis coruscare.
Deinde monstravit illi arenam maris, et dixit: Sic erit in multitudine semen tuum, hoc est, erit quidem copiosa gens Judaeorum, sed sterilis et infecunda manebit, sicut arena. |
Translation |
And so God throwing Abraham out, he showed him the stars of heaven, saying: thus I shall make your seed, that is, the Christian nation, of which you shall be the father in faith, thus I shall make you shine in the light of the resurrection. Then he showed him the sands of the sea, and said: thus your seed shall be a multitude, that is, the people of the Jews shall be abundant, but remain sterile and infertile, like sand. |
