Si quis liber homo potestatem habeat intra dominium regni nostri cum fara sua megrare ubi voluerit – sic tamen si ei a rege data fuerit licentia – et si aliquas res ei dux aut quicumque liber homo donavit, et cum eo noluerit permanere, vel cum heredes ipsius res ad donatorem vel heredes eius revertantur. |
| Translation |
Any freeman, together with his fara [family] has the right to go wherever he wishes within our kingdom provided that this privilege has been given to him by the king. If a duke or any other freeman gives him some property and the recipient does not wish to remain with him or his heirs, the property shall revert to the donor or to his heirs.

| Summary |
Rothari, No. 177 establishes the right of a Lombard freeman and his family to relocate elsewhere within the Lombard regnum, assuming royal permission. However, should the freeman have been granted property by his former duke [dux], then that property should be returned to the duke or his heirs when the freeman leaves. |
