Translation In the name of Almighty God, I, the most excellent Liutprand, king of the most-happy nation, the Lombards, in the eighth year of my reign, God favoring, on the first day of March, in the third indiction, together with my most illustrious obtimates (nobles) from the bounds of Neustria, Austria, and Tuscany, and with the rest of the noble (nobiles) Lombards [issue these laws]… (Emended from K. Summary The prologue to Liutprand’s legislation issued in the eighth year of his reign (720 CE) begins by establishing Liutprand as law-giver and as king of the Lombard people, and giving the date when the laws were issued. It then names the participating individuals in the law-giving as obtimates [nobles] from Austria, Neustria and Tuscany, as well as the collected Lombard people.
